"Netherland" is a novel by Irish author Joseph O'Neill, published in 2008. Set in post-9/11 New York City, it follows Dutch banker Hans van den Broek, who finds himself alone after his wife and son return to London. Hans discovers the vibrant cricket subculture in New York and befriends Chuck Ramkissoon, a Trinidadian entrepreneur with dreams of building a cricket stadium in the city. Through this friendship, Hans explores his identity and relationships amidst a changing cityscape. The novel won the PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction and was listed among The New York Times' Best Books of the Year.

Joseph O'Neill, born in 1964 in Cork, Ireland, grew up in various countries including Mozambique, Iran, and the Netherlands. He worked as a barrister in London before moving to New York in 1998. His other works include "The Dog" and "Blood-Dark Track." He currently resides in Brooklyn and teaches at Bard Collge.
